Italian Committee for Cybersecurity Research

HISTORY

The "Italian Committee for Cybersecurity Research" (hereinafter referred to as the "Committee") was launched in February 2017 by CINI (National Interuniversity Consortium for Informatics), CNR - (National Research Council), and CNIT (National, Inter-University Consortium for Telecommunications).

ORGANIZATIONS

The committee is open to all national research organization. It is currently composed of the National Interuniversity Consortium for informatics (CINI), the National Research Council (CNR) and the National Interuniversity Consortium for Telecommunications (CINIT). In particular Cini is a consortium of 44 public universities united through the National Cybersecurity Laboratory, more the 300 researchers in the area of cybersecurity. The CNR through the Department of ict engineering and technologies for energy and transport, has promoted a project area on cybersecurity involving more than 100 researchers working in the Institutes of the Institution present throughout the country. CNIT is a non-profit organization recognized by MIUR, which consorts 38 public universities to carry out research, innovation and training activities in the ICT sector. CNIT has more than 1300 professors belonging to the consortium universities and more than 100 researchers and technicians working as employees. As part of the National Committee for Research in Cybersecurity, CNIT deals with the security of telecommunications networks. The coordination of the Committee is entrusted to the director of the National Cybersecurity Laboratory.

GOALS

The Committee was established to coordinate the founding members' efforts in cybersecurity research at the national and international levels. In particular, the Committee members contribute to developing the following activities:

  • Designing a more national ecosystem that can better counter cyber-attacks.
  • Improving the continuity of service of critical systems, public administration, and strategic national production chains.
  • Increasing the number of cybersecurity experts and rising threat awareness in the society.
  • Fostering collaboration with European and international partners.
